whats your usual camera settings for star...
I play around ISO400-800 and f/5.6-8 (at 30 seconds). I use Startrails for combining the images (because it’s easier) then I enhance the combined image with Photoshop. It does heat up the sensor but it’s far from enough to damage it. You should be more concerned about the humidity—baka mahamugan yung camera pag naiwan sa labas ng masyadong matagal. Haha. Have fun shooting star...

is it safe to do star trails for a canon...
Yes, it is safe. (What were you concerned about?) Anyway, you should take at least an hour’s worth of 30-second exposures. (shoot longer for fuller star trails) This procedure gives you way cleaner results than shooting one very long exposure.
